Summary

These positions are located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Boston Division.

These position(s) primary purpose is to receive, document, store, and dispose of non-drug evidence and/or bulk marijuana for a Field Division.

Duties


As a EVIDENCE CUSTODIAN, your typical work assignments may include:

  • Maintaining an up-to-date list of alternate evidence custodians who act after hours and in absence of the primary evidence custodian.
  • Performing day-to-day administrative tasks such as maintaining log books and files and processing paperwork while monitoring all office evidence inventory levels and movement using manual or computer systems.
  • Providing regulatory and procedural guidance to personnel on evidence control issues and ensures evidence control and handling is done in accordance with guidance set forth In the Agent's Manual, published Memorandum of Understanding, Notification of Change, Teletypes, or the Inspection Checklist.
  • Researching and interpreting guidelines and uses judgment in applying the appropriate guidelines or process when handling different types of evidence.
  • Participating in and preparing for required inspections by coordinating with senior official to identify/solicit volunteers to conduct the inspection, retrieving electronic reports, ensuring vault is organized, and providing assistance in locating and reconciling evidence discrepancies.

  • Work requires standing for a long period of time; walking through large warehouse space; climbing ladders; reaching, stretching, bending and using physical exertion when lifting and/or relocation evidence and packages weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Incumbent may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Incumbent may be required to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.
  • Incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours (after hours, occasional overtime, and may be subject to calls after hours.

Qualifications


Applicants must meet the Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification claims will be subject to verification.

You may qualify at the GS-07 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrate your ability in: 1) Receiving documents, storing and disposing of non-drug evidence and/or bulk marijuana for a Field Division; 2) Performing seized evidence control duties that follow established guidelines; 3) Creating and maintaining automated records of evidence and vault inventory; 4) Responsible for vault inventory and producing bar code labels on all items for chain of custody tracking.

You may qualify at the GS-08 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrate your ability in:1) Receiving documents, storing and disposing of non-drug evidence and/or bulk marijuana for a Field Division; 2) Performing seized evidence control duties that follow established guidelines; 3) Creating and maintaining automated records of evidence and vault inventory; 4) Responsible for vault inventory and producing bar code labels on all items for chain of custody tracking; 5) Interpreting/utilizing existing guidelines, regulations, and other variety of evidence control situations.

Specialized experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
