Job Description

Company and Position Summary

JKM Electric is a top-ranked, full-service electrical contractor with more than 25 years of proven performance across commercial and industrial sectors. We’ve built our reputation on expert execution—and we’re just getting started.

Despite our deep roots, we operate with the energy of a startup. We’re strategically expanding in the federal and commercial space, chasing bold opportunities with the confidence and capability to deliver. We’re a proud union shop that values craftsmanship, safety, and the strength of our community. At JKM, you’re not just plugging into another job—you’re helping power the next chapter of something big.

We are looking for a sharp, strategic, and relationship-driven Electrical Estimator to drive our preconstruction efforts across federal and commercial markets. This role goes far beyond pricing—you’re influencing outcomes before the drawings are final. You’ll build trust with GCs, shape budgets with owners, and position JKM to win work before it ever hits the street. You’re not just chasing bids—you’re helping decide which ones are worth it, and you’re guiding the pursuit from first look to final number. If you’re an estimator who knows how to build strong pipelines, price complex scopes, and close deals through expertise, negotiation, and integrity, let’s talk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of accurate, competitive electrical estimates from early design through 100% CD for federal and commercial projects $1M+
  • Interpret SOWs, drawings, and specifications to build clear takeoffs and labor forecasts using Accubid, ConEst, or Bluebeam
  • Actively build and nurture relationships with GCs, engineers, and design partners to keep bid flow aligned with strategic growth
  • Drive preconstruction conversations—provide conceptual pricing, budget guidance, and scope input during design-assist pursuits
  • Respond to RFPs with clear, complete proposals, detailed scope clarifications, and strategic alternates
  • Generate and track RFIs to protect scope, clarify pricing assumptions, and mitigate risk early
  • Partner with vendors and subcontractors to secure accurate pricing and ensure bid-day coverage
  • Negotiate scope, pricing, and value-alternate solutions collaboratively with clients and project teams
  • Collaborate with PMs and field teams to ensure constructibility, alignment, and accurate turnover

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in electrical estimating for commercial, institutional, or federal projects
  • Deep knowledge of NEC, labor units, electrical systems, and construction methods
  • Proficient in takeoff and estimating tools such as Accubid, ConEst, or Bluebeam Revu
  • Experience preparing RFP responses, RFIs, and preconstruction packages
  • Strong understanding of federal compliance, including FAR, DFARS, Davis-Bacon, and certified payroll
  • Superior written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills—able to negotiate scope details and clarify expectations professionally
  • Able to interpret construction documents and proactively identify scope gaps and coordination issues
  • Prior work with clients such as USACE, NAVFAC, GSA, WMATA, or large private GCs, preferred
  • Technologically fluent; comfortable learning and integrating new tools and platforms, including AI-assisted estimating, document review, and preconstruction workflows
  • Takes ownership, shows initiative, and thrives in a fast-paced, no-drama culture where accountability matters

What Sets You Apart

  • You treat preconstruction as both a technical discipline and a relationship business
  • You’re a confident communicator who can negotiate scope, pricing, and strategy in a high-stakes environment
  • You build repeat business by being reliable, knowledgeable, and collaborative
  • You bring clarity and structure to ambiguous or fast-moving pursuits
  • You don’t just estimate—you help shape scope, steer decisions, and strengthen partnerships
  • You're drawn to an entrepreneurial environment and want to grow with a company that's building something for the long haul

Why Work for Us:

At JKM Electric, we believe our people are our greatest asset—and we back that up with industry-leading benefits and a culture that values results, respect, and growth. We cover 100% of employee health insurance premiums, offer a competitive bonus program, provide a 401(k) with company match, and support your professional development every step of the way. You’ll be part of a tight-knit, union shop where your work is valued and your future is a priority.
